Grade Center -- Deleting Columns

Open Column Organization in Separate Tab

The "Column Organization" webpage in "Full Grade Center" shows all columns (even ones hidden to you).
And this webpage shows point values and categories, so you can more much more easily tell what is what.
We recommend opening the "Column Organization" webpage in a one tab in your internet browser, and then make all your changes in a second and separate tab.
If you have any hidden columns, check the box in front of them, scroll up or down and click "Show/HIde," click "Show Selected Columns," and click "Submit."
Whether a column appears to you in "Full Grade Center" has no effect on whether a column appears to students or not.
Then return to the "Column Organization" webpage in the same tab in your internet browser.

Consider Before Deleting

Make sure you are absolutely positive that you want to delete a column in "Full Grade Center" before you delete it.
In particular, make sure there are no submissions from students or grades entered into any of the cells in the column.
Scroll up or down through the column a couple times to make sure there are no submissions or grades.
If you are not sure that you want to delete a column, but you have no intentions of using it, then you might want to hide the column from yourself and from students and make sure the column doesn't affect Grade Center calculations.
For how to hide or show a column in "Full Grade Center," hide or show a column to students, or to disable a column, see the following webpage.
If you are positive about deleting a column, then proceed to the next section.

Try This 1st -- Deleting a Column in Full Grade Center

Many types of columns cannot be deleted this way, but you should always try this method first.
  1. Click the circled down arrow in the column's top row.
  2. Click "Delete Column" (if available).
  3. Click "OK."
If this method of deleting columns works for you, see the checking your total and calculated columns section above.
If this method does not work, try the next method.

Try This 2nd -- Deleting an External Grade Column in Full Grade Center

Here is how to delete a column with a green check mark in the column's top row.
The green check mark denotes an "External Grade" column.
You'll need to move the green check mark to another column before deleting an "External Grade" column. Here's how to do that and delete the column.
  1. Click the circled down arrow in the top row of a column without a green check.
  2. Click "Set as External Grade."
  3. A green check mark should appear in this other column.
  4. Click the circled down arrow in the top row of the column you want to delete.
  5. Click "Delete Column" (if available).
  6. Click "OK."
If this method of deleting columns works for you, see the checking your total and calculated columns section above.
If this method does not work, try the next method.

Try This 3rd -- Deleting a Column by Deleting the Submission Link or Activity or Disabling Grading for the Activity

The above methods for deleting a column likely did not work because there was not a "Delete Column" option.
Therefore, you should now find the exam or assignment submission link outside of Grade Center corresponding to the column and delete the exam or assignment submission link.
Similarly, if the column belongs to a Bb Learn blog, wiki, or journal, you'll need to delete the blog, wiki, or journal to delete the column.
However, If the column corresponds to a Bb Learn discussion board forum or thread, you just need to disable the grading for that forum or thread.
If you do not know how to delete an exam or assignment submission link, see the following page. Then look in "Full Grade Center" to see if the column is deleted. If it's not, try method 1 above.
If you do not know how to disable the grading function for a Bb Learn discussion board forum or thread, see the following page. Then look in "Full Grade Center" to see if the column is deleted. If it's not, try method 1 above.
If you do not know how to disable grading for some other Bb Learn tool, contact us at ihelp@drexel.edu
If you do not know to what a column corresponds in your Bb Learn course shell, try the following instructions on searching the expanded course menu, or contact us for assistance.
If this method of deleting columns works for you, see the checking your total and calculated columns section above.

Try this 4th -- Contact Us for Help Deleting Old Turnitin Columns or Other Columns

Finally, if you still cannot delete the Grade Center column, contact us, and we'll help you get the column deleted.
The column in question is almost certainly a left-over from when an old Turnitin assignment was deleted in either the current Bb Learn course shell or a previous Bb Learn course shell.
These old Turnitin assignment columns can't be deleted without help from Drexel ITG, and we know the proper process for requesting that these columns get deleted.
Again, we can get these columns deleted if you contact us at ihelp@drexel.edu
Once the column or columns are deleted, see the checking your total and calculated columns section above.
