Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide -- Test Import from Microsoft Word Tool

Introduction

Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide can be used by instructors to compose test questions in Microsoft Word or other text editors and upload them directly into Bb Learn course shells.

You do NOT have to use Respondus LockDown browser or Respondus Monitor with Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide.

Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide only works on Windows PCs (not Apple/macOS, Linux). There is no mobile app option.

Tip: While you can create test from scratch using this method, you probably want to use this method only if you already have a final exam in Microsoft Word or some other file format.

Download Instructions

  1. Enter Bb Learn at https://learn.dcollege.net , and login.
  2. Click Tools (left navigation panel) > Content Collection > Institution Content (left navigation panel) > Software (scroll down) > Respondus > Respondus4Campus.exe.
    1. Download and install "Respondus4Campus.exe."
    2. You may want to install the "Equation Editor." You will be give the option.
    3. Do NOT click "Follow news.respondus.com."
    4. Click "Close" after install.
    5. Under "Choose LMS Personality," choose "Blackboard." Then "OK."
    6. Close "Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide" application.
  3. Click "README_RespondusLicenseInfo.html" to open the "Respondus Campus-wide License Information" webpage.

    3. Login may be needed. Use Drexel userid and password. MFA likely needed.
  4. Click the link to the software Patch needed to make Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide work, along with installation instructions from DU IT.

    2. Click and install the "Campus-wide Version" or "Download Respondus 4.0.8.06 Patch - Campus-wide Version."
    3. Click "Update Program." Then "OK."
  5. Open the "Internet Explorer" or IE web browser (not "Edge"),
    1. Keep "Internet Explorer" open in the background while using "Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide."
    2. To open "Internet Explorer" if not on your Windows bottom Task Bar or Desktop, press the Windows key or Start Menu key on your keyboard, and search for "Internet Explorer" or browse to W > Windows Accessories > Internet Explorer.

Import Instructions

  1. Open the "Internet Explorer" or IE web browser (not "Edge"),
    1. Keep "Internet Explorer" open in the background while using "Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide."
    2. To open "Internet Explorer" if not on your Windows bottom Task Bar or Desktop, press the Windows key or Start Menu key on your keyboard, and search for "Internet Explorer" or browse to W > Windows Accessories > Internet Explorer.
  2. Format your file with the questions and answers to add.
    1. Microsoft Word or Plain Text recommended.

  3. Close the Microsoft Word or your Plain Text editor before importing it.
  4. For "Create a new document," enter the desired name of the exam.
  5. Click "Preview" to get an idea of how the test questions will look and  to see if there are any early "Warnings or Notes" that appear in the bottom box before importing.
  6. Click "Finish." Wait for import to finish. Click "OK."
  7. Click "Settings," and then go through "Random Blocks," "Availability," and "Other Settings."
    1. Do NOT check to enable "Force Completion: Students must complete the assessment the first time it is launched."
    2. Do NOT enter a "Password" here. Could interfere with Respondus LockDown browser and Monitor. You can add this later as well.
    3. Many of these settings are what you normally find in a Bb Learn exam's "Edit the Test Options" page.
    4. "Random Blocks" allow you to create test questions that randomly appear. This is more than order. You can have different questions appear to different students. Follow the on-screen instructions if you wish to use this feature.
  8. Click Preview + Publish > Preview the File.
    1. Review each test question once more by clicking "Next".
    2. Click "Modify Item" to modify a question or its answers. Click "Save Changes" at bottom of question if you modify it. Then click Preview + Publish > Preview the File.
    3. Click "Close" button when finished reviewing.
  9. Click "Publish" in left navigation panel under "Preview + Publish" tab.
  10. Click "Publish Wizard."
  11. Choose "Publish to a single course" in "Publish Wizard" window.
  12. For "Blackboard Server," choose - add new server - > Yes, check for pre-configured server settings (in new window)> Next.
  13. Choose Drexel University (from drop-down menu in new window) > OK.
  14. Enter "Name" of "Drexel CCI Courses" followed by your First an Last Name.
    1. Example: Drexel CCI Courses Michael Galloway
  15. Click "Next" to "Run connection test."
  16. In the "Authentication Module Download" window, click "OK" to download it.
  17. Sign-in to Bb Learn in the new window.
  18. Once signed in, click the "Close the Window" button.
    1. Do not click the X, or you will have to repeat above 3-4 steps.
  19. In the "Publish Wizard" window:
    1. "Choose Course to publish in" (drop-down).
    2. Leave all other options as they are.
    3. Click "Next" when finished.
  20. Chose a "Content Area" where the test should go.
    1. Click + sign to see sub-folders within "Content Areas."
    2. Click "Next" when finished.
  21. WAIT!!!! 
  22. Once you see "Completed successfully" in the status window, click "Finish."
