Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide -- Microsoft Word File Format and Example File

Instructions

First, look at Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide -- Test Import from Microsoft Word Tool .

Second, review the example import file below.

Multiple Choice Format

Here is how to format Multiple Choice questions.

  • State the point value for 1 or more questions on the line before the first question and in the format of “Points: #.#” (without quotes and where # is a numeric digit).
  • All additional questions after that will have the same point value until you type “Points: #.#” (no quotes) in front of another question. You can put “Points: #.#” (no quotes) in front of every question, if you wish.
  • Start the question with a number followed by ) or . then followed by an empty space. Then type in your question.
  • Each answer choice starts with a letter between A and T followed by a ) or . then followed by an empty space. Then type in the text for that answer choice.
  • Mark the correct answer with an asterisk right in front of the letter of the correct answer, with NO space between the asterisk and the answer letter.
  • Set automatic feedback for the correct answer by putting a ~ followed by a white space, and then the text of the feedback.
  • Set automatic feedback for wrong answers by putting a @ followed by a white space, and then the text of the feedback.
  • Automatic feedback should be in between the question line and answer choices.
  • We only list automatic feedback for the first question in the examples below, but you can provide automatic feedback for every question or more than one question.

True/False Questions

Here is how to format True/False questions.

Follow the same format as you used for Multiple Choice questions, but with a couple differences:

  • You only have two answer choices: True and False.
  • True has to be listed first as an answer choice.

Of course, either False or True can be the correct answer, but True hast to be listed first.

Otherwise, everything you do for Multiple Choice questions are what you do for True/False questions.

Essay Questions

Essay questions have a very simple format.

  • Enter “Type: E” (without quotes) on a line.
  • Start the question with a number followed by ) or . then followed by an empty space. Then type in your question.
  • Enter a Point Value for the essay question in the exact same way that you do for Multiple Choice and True and False questions.

Fill in the Blank Questions

Fill in the Blank questions are similar to Essay questions, but with a couple key differences:

  • Enter “Type: F” rather than “Type: E” (and still without quotes).
  • You can list multiple forms of the correct answer. Start each form with a letter between A and T followed by a ) or . then followed by an empty space. Then type in the text for the acceptable form of the answer.
