Bb Learn Tests -- Exporting and Importing

Copying a Bb Learn course shell's test, survey, or pool to another course shell is different than copying other types of content (course copying not included).

Using the Safari internet browser on a Mac computer?

  • Safari by default unzips zipped files when it downloads them.
  • So you need to either click Safari > Preferences > General & then uncheck "Open safe files after downloading" & then close the "Preferences" window.
  • Or use Firefox or Chrome on your Mac computer.
  • This was the case September of 2017. It's possible this is fixed now.

Here are directions for exporting/importing an individual test, survey, or pool from one Bb Learn course shell to another: 

  1. Enter the Bb Learn course shell that contains the test, survey, or pool you want to copy.
  2. Under "Control Panel" in the left-hand navigation panel or course menu, click to expand "Course Tools".
  3. Click "Tests, Surveys, and Pools"
  4. Click "Tests" or "Surveys" or "Pools."
    Depending on whether you are copying a test, survey, or pool.
  5. Hover your mouse pointer over the test/survey/pool name that you want to copy, and then click the circled down arrow next to that name.
  6. Click "Export to local computer"
  7. Wait a minute or two or less until you are prompted to either open or save the .zip file.
  8. Click on "Save File," and save the .zip file to a location
    on your computer that you can easily find later, like your "Desktop."
  9. Click the "Home" link in the upper left, and find and enter the Bb Learn course shell where you want to copy the test/survey/pool.
  10. Under "Control Panel" in the left-hand navigation panel or course menu, in this 2nd Bb Learn course shell, click to expand "Course Tools"
  11. Click "Tests, Surveys, and Pools"
  12. Click "Tests" or "Surveys" or "Pools."
    Depending on whether you are copying a test, survey, or pool.
  13. Click on the "Import Test" or "Import Survey" or "Import Pool" button.

  14. Click on "Browse my computer"
  15. Find the .zip file that you saved in step 8 above, click "Open" or "Choose" to select it.
  16. Click on the "Submit Button" to upload the test/survey/pool.
  17. Examine the confirmation screen to see if there are any errors and click on "OK".

Once the test is imported, you need to to deploy the test/exam/quiz
in one of the content areas,
such "Week 1" or "Week 2" or "Final Exam" or Assignments", etc.

  1. Enter the content area (such "Week 1" or "Week 2" or "Final Exam" or Assignments", etc) where you want to deploy the test.
  2. Click on the "Assessments" button at the top of the webpage.
  3. Click on "Test." 
  4. From there, highlight the newly imported test, and click "Submit."
  5. You'll then need to provide the details for test such as directions, total points, due date, availability dates, etc.
