Bb Learn Tests -- Grade Decreases Automatically Based on Time or Number of Attempts

There is no simple and direct to have a Bb Learn test, or a Bb Learn test configured as an assignment, decrease automatically based on how long after the deadline a student submits and/or based on how many times a student submits, but the methods outlined below will let you do this.


Method 1 -- Assignment or Test Grade Decreases 10 Points Each Week It Is Late and No Resubmissions 

  1. For assignments, use the instructions below to make a Bb Learn test into an assignment so that you can use test settings for an assignment.
       (a) Bb Learn Assignments -- Timed Assignments
  2. Make multiple versions of the same assignment or test in Bb Learn in which each version has the same questions but an overall point value that is 10 points lower than the previous version.
  3. Do not allow multiple attempts or submissions on any one version of the test or assignment  in that test or assignment version's settings or options.
  4. Set the due dates on each version of the test or assignment's settings to be one week after the previous version in that test or assignment version's settings or options.
  5. Set the different versions of the test or assignment to not allow submissions after the due date for that version of the test or assignment in that test or assignment version's settings or options.
  6. Set each version of the assignment or test to only be available to students for the specific week after the previous version was available in that test or assignment version's settings or options.
  7. Set adaptive release on each version of the test or assignment so that no version of the assignment or test is available to students who have submitted a version of the test or assignment already.
  8. Create a "Total" column (named what you will) in "Full Grade Center" by clicking "Create Calculated Column.
  9. Set this "Total" column to only include the multiple versions of the assignment or test in its calculations.
  10. Specifically include this "Total" column in an overall grade total column in "Full Grade Center" (as it will not otherwise be included) to figure the overall grade in Bb Learn for the class.


Method 2 -- Assignment or Test Grade Decreases 10 Points Each Week It Is Late with Resubmissions Allowed

Students can resubmit multiple times the same week without additional loss of points, but lose points for each week the submission or resubmission is late.

  1. For assignments, use the instructions below to make a Bb Learn test into an assignment so that you can use test settings for an assignment.
    1. Bb Learn Assignments -- Timed Assignments
  2. Make multiple versions of the same assignment or test in Bb Learn in which each version has the same questions but an overall point value that is 10 points lower than the previous version.
  3. Set the due dates on each version of the test or assignment's settings to be one week after the previous version in that test or assignment version's settings or options.
  4. Set the different versions of the test or assignment to not allow submissions after the due date for that version of the test or assignment in that test or assignment version's settings or options.
  5. Set each version of the assignment or test to only be available to students for the specific week after the previous version was available in that test or assignment version's settings or options.
  6. Set adaptive release on the first version of the test or assignment so that it is only available if students have not submitted one of the other versions.
  7. Set adaptive release on each of the other versions of the test or assignment so that each only becomes available when the version that is 10 points higher in points possible has been submitted.
  8. Create a "Total" column (named what you will) in "Full Grade Center" by clicking "Create Calculated Column.
  9. Set this "Total" column to only include the multiple versions of the assignment or test in its calculations.
  10. Specifically include this "Total" column in an overall grade total column in "Full Grade Center" (as it will not otherwise be included) to figure the overall grade in Bb Learn for the class.

  8. Set adaptive release on each of the other versions of the test or assignment so that each only becomes available when the version that is 10 points higher in points possible has been submitted.
