Handling Spam - The Merely Annoying Type

Spam emails in Inbox or in an email folder in Outlook aside from "Junk"? 

Mark email as junk in Windows Outlook

  • Right-click/control-click the spam message where it's listed with other email messages, and click "Mark as junk."
  • Undo marking an email message as junk? Right-click/control-click the email message in the "Junk Email" folder, and click "Mark as not junk."

  • Block Sender too?

    Do this if are sure you don't want to see email from this sender ever again, outside of "Junk Email."
    Right-click/control-click the spam message where it's listed with other email messages, and click "Block Sender."
    Undo blocking the sender?
    Right-click/control-click the email message in the "Junk Email" or another email folder, and click "Block Sender."

Send emails with full headers in Mac Outlook

  • Right-click/control-click the spam message where it's listed with other email messages, click "Junk Mail", and click "Mark as Junk."
  • Undo marking an email message as junk? 
    Right-click/control-click the email message under the "Junk Email" folder.
    And in the "Drexel" sub-folder, click "Junk Mail", and click "Mark as Not Junk."

Wrong emails getting marked as Junk in Outlook?

  • Click the instructions link in the above section. Both marking and unmarking items as junk/spam is covered there.

Spam emails in "Junk" email folder in Outlook? (Or similar folder elsewhere.):

  • You don't need to do anything aside from not clicking any links in, or opening any attachments in, or downloading or viewing any images in those emails.
  • Delete emails in the junk email folder that you do not need after they build up for awhile.

Rules or Filters or Forwarding 

Another way to manage non-essential email, or persistently reoccurring junk/spam/scam/phishing emails in your Inbox or other non-Junk mail folders, is to set rules (or filters) for how you want emails to be handled. More on how to create and edit such rules is at the webpage below.

Focused Inbox

"Focused Inbox" divides your "Inbox."

  • The "Focused" tab has your important emails.
  • The "Other" tab has unimportant emails.

You train Outlook how to automatically move emails into one tab or the other.

  • Moving emails out of your "Focused Inbox" to the "Other" tab identifies unimportant messages.
  • Moving emails into your "Inbox" or "Focused Inbox" identifies important messages.

Mark all emails you do NOT WANT as "Junk" or "Spam," which trains the "Junk" mail filter.

"Junk" or "Spam" emails not caught by your "Junk" or "Spam" mail filter often sent to the "Other" tab, which is usually helpful.
